## Use cases

### Agent Grounding (Tech / IT)

AI agents check exact GO class names, such as apoptotic process, before they tag text or answer questions.

### Gene Function Annotation (Healthcare)

Researchers annotate genes and proteins with GO classes, such as DNA repair or nucleus.

### Pathway and Reaction Mapping (Healthcare)

Data scientists map pathway and reaction records to GO classes, such as signal transduction.

## Description

## Overview
The Gene Ontology (GO) is a set of concepts for describing the functions of gene products from all organisms. It covers biological_process, molecular_function and cellular_component. Classes in this entry include cell cycle, apoptotic process, signal transduction, DNA repair, nucleus, mitochondrion and catalytic activity. The entity count is the number of classes that GO itself defines in EBI OLS. It does not count classes that GO imports from other ontologies. Researchers and data scientists can use this entry to find exact GO class names before they annotate genes or map data.

## Top entities
biological_process, molecular_function, cellular_component, cell cycle, apoptotic process, signal transduction, DNA repair, transcription by RNA polymerase II, nucleus, mitochondrion, plasma membrane, catalytic activity

## Mappings
- OBO Foundry identifiers (GO:): direct. Each GO class has an OBO ID, such as GO:0006915 for apoptotic process.

## For agents
Look up GO class names in this entry, then read each class's definition and parents in EBI OLS. Use the exact names, including the underscores in biological_process, molecular_function and cellular_component. Sample prompt: "Using the Gene Ontology (GO) entry in the Schematica Library, which GO classes describe DNA repair and the nucleus?"
